Fish Feeding & Brood Stock

Fish Feeding & Brood Stock

Leftover fish from the Curaçao Sea Aquarium is used to feed wild snapper populations in protected zones. This sustainable practice supports large, stable brood stocks adult fish that reproduce and help repopulate reefs across the island. It’s a simple but powerful way to boost biodiversity while giving visitors a close-up view of thriving marine life.

Background

To support healthy fish populations around the Curaçao Sea Aquarium, we maintain designated feeding stations where wild snapper and other reef species receive a daily supply of leftover fish from our facility. This controlled, sustainable practice helps build strong brood stocks—large, healthy adult fish that reproduce and replenish surrounding reefs. Over time, these protected groups contribute to greater biodiversity, improved fish abundance, and more resilient coastal ecosystems. The project also allows visitors to witness the natural behavior of thriving wild fish while demonstrating how small, consistent interventions can create meaningful ecological impact.
