Canal Restoration project

Canal Restoration project

Our canal restoration is transforming a barren waterway into a thriving marine habitat. With coral rock structures, gorgonian replanting, and fish feeding stations, we’re building a safe haven where reef life can return and grow. It’s a real-time example of how nature bounces back when given the chance.

Restoring the canal

Our canal restoration project is transforming what was once a mostly barren waterway into a thriving, self-sustaining ecosystem. By adding natural coral-rock structures, planting mangroves, restoring damaged gorgonians, growing rare zoanthids, and supporting wild fish populations through controlled feeding stations, we are rebuilding a living corridor of biodiversity right beside the Curaçao Sea Aquarium. The canal now serves as both a sanctuary for marine life and a functioning outdoor laboratory, where we can observe real-time ecological recovery, test restoration techniques, and provide hands-on learning opportunities for students and researchers.
